HomeJunior Board Members

VASTA’s Junior Board is open to members of any age who identify as being in the early stages of their voice and speech career and would like to learn how the association runs by serving on the board of directors as a non-voting member for two years. First-year Junior Board Members attend virtual meetings and read the minutes from all in-person meetings. Second-year JBMs attend all in-person and virtual board meetings and become more actively involved in the board’s activities, following areas of interest that they have developed and voicing ideas, opinions, and the views of the VASTA members they represent.

VASTAs mission seeks to represent as many diverse views as possible, to enrich all our approaches to teaching and coaching voice and speech in education, business, and the wider community. The Junior Board is open to applicants globally. We are particularly interested in receiving applications from underrepresented voices and specifically encourage applications from members who identify as Black, Indigenous, and/or People of Color.

VASTA’s Junior Board is currently seeking two new members to serve from January 2023 to December 2024. The Junior Board is open to VASTA members of any age who identify as being in the early stages of their voice and speech career and/or journey and would like to learn how the association runs by serving on the Board of Directors as a non-voting member for two years. First-year Junior Board Members (JBMs) attend virtual meetings and read the minutes from in-person meetings. Second-year JBMs attend all in-person and virtual board meetings and become more actively involved in the board’s activities. In addition, they are also encouraged to follow areas of interest that they have developed and voice ideas, opinions, and the views of the VASTA members they represent.

VASTA’s mission seeks to represent as many diverse views as possible in order to enrich all our approaches to teaching and coaching voice and speech in education, business, the arts, and the wider community. The Junior Board is open to applicants globally. We specifically encourage applications from historically marginalized voices, including members who identify as Black, Indigenous, and/or People of Color, people who are D/deaf, people with disabilities, and/or those from the 2SLGBTQIA+ community. All applications will be reviewed by the JBM Selection committee. The committee will consist of current Jr. Board Members, representative from EDIA+ Committee, and the current President of VASTA.

To apply, interested individuals should submit a cover letter to the Junior Board search panel. The cover letter can be typewritten (not exceeding 1500 words) OR an audio/video submission (not exceeding 3 minutes).  Please include:

Information about your voice and speech journey, involvement in VASTA to date, and your career goals. Applicants do not need to have attended a VASTA conference to apply.

- What you would like to gain by being a member of the Junior Board.

-  Your commitment to, interest in, and/or experience with equity, diversity, inclusion, and accessibility protocols/practices.

- What other skills, interests, knowledge, or experience you would bring to the role.

If you wish to upload a CV (curriculum vitae) or resume to support your application, you are welcome to do so, though this is not a requirement.

Applications are due by midnight (PST) on November 22nd, 2022. Depending on the wonderful number of applications received, interviews may be held. Should this be the case, all interviewees will be notified a week in advance. Accepted applicants will be notified by mid-December.

We look forward to receiving your applications!

Sincerely,

The Junior Board Selection Committee
